The Parks Trust is currently proposing to reduce the double row of plane trees along North Row and South Row to a single row over the next fifteen years. This is due to the fact that these trees are now reaching maturity, meaning that the crowns of the trees are beginning to touch.
Under the plans, the Parks Trust will remove every other tree in the front row (closest to the car parking) the first phase, followed by every other tree from the row behind that in the second phase, then finally the entire front row in the third phase.
CMK Town Council has now reviewed these plans and is confident that the thinning is necessary from an arboricultural standpoint. The hope is that, with more room to grow, the remaining trees will in time fill out to preserve the green frame that surrounds CMK.
