MK at Heart of Government Growth Corridor

Milton Keynes has been put at the heart of a new growth corridor between Oxford and Cambridge, identified by the Government in its Autumn Budget.

The ‘arc’ between the two university cities is being developed by the National Infrastructure Commission, who are planning to deliver a range of new transport links and housing across the area. The budget announcement includes a commitment to complete the first stage of the East-West Rail scheme by 2023, giving Milton Keynes Central direct rail services to Oxford, Aylesbury, High Wycombe and Reading.

New road links are also planned, along with the creation of new ‘garden towns’ along the arc to relieve the national housing shortage, reminiscent of the original creation of Milton Keynes for similar reasons half a century ago.
