Have Your Say on Proposed Parking Changes
The public is being invited to comment on plans to create three new areas of temporary parking around the city centre. Milton Keynes Council, who are proposing the new spaces, are also proposing to increase parking charges to 50p an hour for the purple standard bays, and £2 an hour for the red premium bays, in order to fund their construction. The full details of their planned parking changes can be found here.
The three sites in question are all vacant plots earmarked for future development. The parking is initially intended to be in place for three years, with an extension possible if no development plans come forward for those sites. The sites are located:
- behind Saxon Court on South Row
- behind Westminster House on South Row
- south of Avebury Boulevard to Childs Way and east of Grafton Gate to South Fourth Street (known as block B4).
The third of these sites is by far the largest, occupying most of the land from Toys ‘R’ Us to Sainsburys.
Together the three sites will provide 2,000 temporary new spaces. Detailed maps of the planned sites can be viewed here.
The public consultation runs until Friday the 16th of January. Any views or comments should be sent to Milton Keynes Council at parkingconsultation@milton-keynes.gov.uk.
Update: The Town Council has now reviewed these plans and our response can be found here.
