London-style “Boris Bikes” will soon be a common sight around Milton Keynes following the announcement of a new cycle hire scheme for the city. 90 new ‘bike docks’ across the city are set to be installed from Spring 2016, opening up a wide range of journey possibilities. It is hoped the scheme will encourage commuters within the city to leave the car at home.

Unlike their successful London counterparts, the Milton Keynes hire cycles will also benefit from the city’s extensive redway network, allowing for easy and fast journeys between CMK and other parts of the city. The scheme, which will allow users to hire cycles through a phone app or via a membership card, will be the second largest scheme of its type in the country, behind only the one the London.

The new scheme is being developed by Milton Keynes City Centre Management (MKCCM) in collaboration with Milton Keynes Council and Nextbike, with sponsoring from Santander, who are also the sponsors of the London scheme.
