MK World Picnic

Sun, 29 July 2018 @ 13:00 - 18:00

The Parks Trust, the self-financing charity that organises and enables over 500 events every year, is preparing for its annual World Picnic extravaganza on Sunday. This hugely popular event offers visitors the chance to experience and celebrate the many cultures of the world; with a wide variety of music and dance acts performing throughout the day.
The event will be held in Campbell Park Meadow on Sunday 29th July, between 1pm and 6pm.

This will be the first time World Picnic is held in the wildflower meadow, and this new location provides the opportunity for a second stage; the bandstand stage. The bandstand stage will feature acoustic sessions from local performers, creating the perfect ambience for a relaxed picnic in the sun with family and friends.

Highlights on the main stage include Uma Nwanyi Oma Dance Group at 2.05pm, Mariachi Las Adelitas at 3.20pm, and Ukie-Toones at 4pm. Visitors can take part in a free, high-energy drumming and didgeridoo drop-in
workshop with Inta Africa between 1pm and 4pm. They can then head to the front of the main stage to watch Inta Africa perform at 5.05pm.

In addition, there will be a quirky Chez Jopie mobile jazz bar from the Netherlands, presented by International Festival to complement the afternoon’s activities.  The Cultural Village will also return, offering a wide variety of activities, including, art workshops, a language café, African tent, multilingual handicraft stall, international
recipe swap and the chance to dress up in multicultural garments. There will also be a wide variety of food stalls serving delicious treats throughout the day.

Julie Dawes, Events & Community Engagement Manager for The Parks Trust, commented: “We can’t wait for this year’s World Picnic; our new location has given us the opportunity to increase the line-up and add a new acoustic dynamic to the festival. There is so much to do for people of all ages; whatever your interests you
will love World Picnic! We’re fortunate in Milton Keynes to be host to a wide variety of cultures from around
the world, and World Picnic is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate this and spend
some time together as a community.”
