All Change at the Theatre District

It’s all change at CMK’s Theatre District. The complex of bars and restaurants, which has been in decline over recent years, has been sold to real estate firm Otium for £16 million.

In addition to the sale, work has now started on a new 130-bed Premiere Inn hotel on the grass site to the south of the Theatre District, where the CMK ferriss wheel stood for a time around 2007.

Much of the Theatre District site is currently standing empty after several large occupiers such as Pizza Hut moved out of their units. This has led to the area becoming run-down and there have been calls and plans to regenerate it for some time.

Plans are now afoot to refurbish the district, and the Town Council hopes that the new owners will bring the site up to an appropriate standard for a modern city centre leisure quarter.
